The Saturday Club is among the oldest (if not the oldest) women’s organization in the country. The founders of this venerable institution were very brave to seek an outlet for socialization and learning outside the home, back in 1886. The club has remained in continuous existence since its beginning, having experienced many historical changes.
The current economic climate has been challenging for all non-profit organizations and has been challenging for The Saturday Club to maintain its mission. We are charged with protecting and maintaining our historic clubhouse. We are equally charged with working to raise the funds we give through our Philanthropy Grant program, which has become increasingly difficult with the increasing number of applications from worthy organizations all requesting help.
In conjunction with celebrating the 125th anniversary of The Saturday Club, the Board of Directors looked to secure the future of The Saturday Club for many generations to come. In 2011, we established an Annual Fund for the Club which will provide essential support for our club, helping with our capital expenses in maintaining our historic Clubhouse along with operational costs. Despite a frugal budget, the continued rise in expenses create challenges in maintaining our mission of philanthropy in the larger community of Philadelphia.
