We are excited to have teamed up with theVillage again this year. TheVillage provides child welfare, residential programs, mental health, and prevention services to children and families in Philadelphia and neighboring counties. This year, we selected a family whose requests for gifts has the whole family as a top priority. The circumstances this family has overcome to be together, is truly moving.
Here is a short bio of the family:
The family has been under DHS supervision for more than 7 years. The murder of the some of the children’s father lead the mother to a downward spiral into depression and substance abuse. Her substance abuse caused her to lose her housing and ultimately lead to removal of her children from her care. She entered a drug treatment program, went to counseling, attended parenting classes, and has complied with all court orders. As a result, her children were returned to her custody. Today, she remains clean and sober and is working to provide a stable home for her children. With the help of theVillage’s In Home Protective Services Program, She is able to maintain a stable home for her children and working toward being discharged from DHS all together. The reunited family is looking forward to spending Christmas together. Your generosity will help make this holiday season a very special one.
A huge thank you for the outpouring of generosity by our membership to make our sponsored family have a very special holiday! We are so proud to have been able to collect every single item on their list. We also had a great group head over to theVillage, to wrap some gifts for other families in the program, thank you so much for taking a little time out of your day to do this! The new member class from May 2019 did a wonderful job organizing this event, thank you Catherine Scholl, Jennifer Scholl, Grace Hau, Jamie Bemiller and Jess Miller.
