Community Service is the cornerstone of The Saturday Club’s philanthropic mission.
As members of The Saturday Club, we are dedicated to our long-standing commitment of service to our local community for more than 140 years. Our membership is passionate about helping those in need while creating a greater sense of community and compassion throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, especially in our own backyard of Delaware County. In alignment with our mission, all of our service projects are geared to align our charitable organization with other local 501(c)(3) organizations that benefit women, children and families.
The Saturday Club service projects change annually based on the current needs of the community and capacity of our member volunteers. Projects in recent years have included:
- Collecting books and sponsoring local literacy programs in Philadelphia (WePAC) and building lending libraries (Arts Holding Hands and Hearts)
- Meal preparation serving the community through radical hospitality in Montgomery County (Family Promise of Montgomery County) and Philadelphia (Broad Street Love)
- We have exchanged ‘favorite things’ with each other during a special holiday collection of women’s pampering items for displaced women in Exton (Home of the Sparrow)
- Holiday gift donations and wrapping events for children and families needing support around the holidays
- Host a blood drive each year in conjunction with the American Red Cross at our Clubhouse in downtown Wayne
- Continue to be the site of many other impactful donation drives for so many other organizations
- Each year, the Philanthropy Committee also hosts the Community Impact Showcase — a community event celebrating our grant recipients and introducing prospective applicants and partners to the program.
Each year we seek to partner with a dozen or more charitable groups, and each year these partnerships evolve. Learn more about the ways our members are volunteering their time through our Community Service and Outreach program blog.
Throughout our club’s history, philanthropy and the power of collective giving has been critical to its mission. In addition to the club’s direct service projects, members also plan and facilitate several fundraising events to support our grantmaking. Among our club’s largest fundraisers are:
- The Women & Children’s Consignment Sale
- Ladies Charity Bingo
- Holiday Market
- The Saturday Club Etiquette Program
Funds raised through these events enable us to provide support to important causes in our community. Every April the club grants awards to other, local charitable organizations that support our philanthropic mission via our Grant Program.
If you are part of a non-profit organization that’s interested in partnering with or receiving volunteer support from The Saturday Club, please contact the Philanthropy Committee at philanthropy@saturdayclub.org.
