The Saturday Club, with help from our membership, their children and our community, collected over 650 children’s books for Reach Out and Read Greater Philadelphia at our drop-off book drive on October 7th!
Reach Out and Read is a national non-profit organization that gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.
Our local Greater Philadelphia program is implemented at 20 CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia) primary care locations that serve low-income communities. Physicians and Nurse Practitioners at the selected CHOP locations “prescribe” a book to children aged six months to five years. At each well visit, the care provider first reads a book and then sends that book home with the family to encourage reading at home.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to participate in this amazing partnership and we will continue to do so for the duration of our club year as our TSC KIDS Club raises money for Read Out & Read through our Kindness Coin Jar program.
