Unfortunately COVID has continued to force some changes to our pre-planned community outreach efforts throughout our Club season, but that did not stop our volunteers from coming together to support our friends at the Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children earlier this spring.
While we had to postpone plans to assist with an in-home spring cleaning, we did run a collection drive which helped fulfill the basic home supply needs of the residents of their transitional housing program. Our membership collected bags of brand new queen-sized sheets, pillows, kitchen trash cans, brooms, Swiffers, toilet brushes, laundry detergent, shampoo, conditioner, women’s and men’s deodorant, which were packaged up to be given to new residents in their program.
The Friends Association takes a “housing first” approach at tackling the problem of homelessness. We love that their program focuses deeply on keeping families together in provided housing to better position those families to address challenges and pursue opportunities as a family unit.
