Last night in a virtual membership meeting and ceremony, The Saturday Club awarded grant funding to three local organizations with aligned missions. Annual philanthropy grants were presented to Cradle of Hope, Families Forward Philadelphia and Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center. The funds, which were raised by the club through virtual and in-person community fundraisers throughout 2020 and 2021, will be used to establish and enhance programs while providing key assistance to each organization. Representatives from each organization had the opportunity to join us virtually and we excitedly anticipate welcoming them to our Clubhouse in person next club year to speak further about their organizations and the impact our funding was able to provide.
“Our annual grant program is such a special part of who we are as an organization and what we do to support our community. While fundraising is essential in supporting our own operations as a non-profit, it also allows us to share our wealth with some other incredible charitable organizations in our area. This past year has been exceptionally challenging for so many non-profits trying to find new ways to sustain themselves in a global pandemic, while also continuing to support the communities they serve. So to be able to award three grants to help further other charities with aligned missions to improve the lives of women, children and family is even more meaningful right now,” said The Saturday Club’s Vice President of Community Outreach and Philanthropy, Lindsay Green.
Cradle of Hope offers housing and support to single mothers and their children. It can support up to six mothers and children for up to 18 months. The Cradle seeks to help women that choose to keep and raise their children by enabling mothers to get full-time employment and permanent housing. The Cradle’s mission is to minister to single mothers aged 18 and over with children 0-24 months old. The women plan and cook their own meals, do chores, pay rent and attend workshops, Bible study and counseling. Over time the organization addresses physical, emotional, and spiritual needs through a family centered program.
Families Forward Philadelphia has been dedicated to the same mission since 1915 – to provide information, advice, guidance, protection and shelter. Originally targeted at travelers, their legacy continues 103 years later by meeting the needs of Philadelphia’s homeless families. The organization’s programs are focused on keeping families together and helping them navigate the way back home through offering housing, comfort, support, and hope. Families Forward Philadelphia is Philadelphia’s largest emergency shelter for families with over 250 children in their programs daily and over 70 homes in West Philadelphia to help transition formerly homeless families.
Mission Kids Child Advocacy Center offers a comprehensive, centrally located, multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse in a dedicated, child-friendly setting to achieve justice for child victims and promote their physical and emotional well-being. The organization provides neutral, fact-finding forensic interviews which are coordinated to avoid duplicative interviewing and support Montgomery County’s multidisciplinary team approach to child abuse investigation and intervention. Mission Kids joins a nationwide network of child-focused care facilities designed in accordance with standards established by the National Children’s Alliance and the U.S. Department of Justice.
