The Saturday Club partnered once again with West Philadelphia Alliance for Children (WePAC), the only non-profit in Philadelphia systematically working to open closed school libraries. This year, our member volunteers collected, sorted and barcoded over 650 books to be donated to Overbrook Elementary School’s new WePAC-run library. The members were elated to take part in helping outfit this school that has not had a library in operation for over nine years, but once again will in the Fall of 2020. With only two full-time employees, hundreds of volunteers and private funding, WePAC is committed to improving literacy through early access to books and library staff in Philadelphia public schools. They are currently on track to open twenty libraries by the end of the 2020/2021 school year and our recent collection for Overbrook Elementary School’s library will outfit their nineteenth school.
