During their latest The Saturday Club Kids meeting, our youngest members created warm, cozy, fleece blankets to donate to children in need in partnership with Project Linus. The children made the blankets by selecting whimsical, fleece fabric and creating the blankets using a child-friendly, no-sew pattern. Each TSC Kids member shared his or her blanket with the group then created a personalized card to be donated with each blanket.
Throughout the meeting, kids were reminded of the importance of kindness and helping others and the Kids Club motto is shared to reinforce the mission of the Club. This was the third meeting for this group and a fantastic way for kids young and old to take part in service projects. The next Kids Club meeting will be held at Femimore Woods Park on the afternoon of May 6th.
Project Linus’ mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” The organization has grown since being founded in 1995, with chapters in all 50 states and continues to grow. Blankets are collected locally and distributed to children in hospitals, shelters, social service agencies, or anywhere that a child might be in need of a big hug.
