This past week, some of our TSC Kids families and Member Volunteers collected and assembled 15 “Birthday-in-a-Box” kits for children of the young, homeless families in the transitional housing program at Drueding Center. This was a brand new service project concept for our group and one we are hopeful will spread joy during a difficult time.
Each themed (tie dye, dinosaurs, unicorns, etc.) birthday bin our group assembled was curated specifically for a boy or girl and included all the necessary birthday party essentials for 8 people to enjoy — cake mix, frosting, candles, plastic utensils, plates, napkins, signage, stuffed animal, cards & more!
The Saturday Club was introduced to the Drueding Center when they applied for and were selected as a grant recipient for our Annual Grant Program in 2019. The Drueding Center offers transitional housing for young, homeless families with parents between the ages of 18 and 24. The center offers a holistic approach and real hope for a productive, meaningful future for once-homeless families and provides practical help for those facing the complex issues of homelessness.
Given the alignment with our mission to enrich the lives of Greater Philadelphia women, children and families, we felt partnering with the Drueding Center to create these special birthday kits would be a great way to continue to support the families seeking their services. We look forward to spreading birthday joy for the children at Drueding Center who will receive these later this year!
