On May 5th, volunteers from The Saturday Club visited Variety, The Children’s Charity – a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children and young adults with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities through educational and vocational programs. Our team of volunteers spent time weeding, pruning, mulching, and removing invasive thistle weed around the gardens. Volunteers also created customized plant markers to label the growing seedlings housed in Variety’s greenhouses.
These seedlings result in produce harvested and used to generate revenue through Variety’s weekly markets, pop-up events, and even incorporated into handmade goods in their on-site bakery!
In addition to supporting operations, the garden beds and greenhouse serve as learning stations for campers and students who rotate through them as part of their vocational training, learning valuable agricultural and entrepreneurial skills to prepare for greater independence and future employment opportunities.
Our volunteers were inspired by the mission and impact of Variety’s programs and were grateful for the opportunity to contribute. We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting the incredible work being done by this organization in the future.

That’s a wrap for our 2024-2025 club year!
